I. About the Emergency Management Collection

The Emergency Management Collection at the New Jersey State Library is a collection of materials purchased with funds provided by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM). The NJOEM receives a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) to make these funds available. The purpose of this collection is to have materials available to New Jersey citizens, and to county and local emergency managers, government officials, emergency responders, teachers, engineers, and corporate emergency officials in New Jersey that need to prepare for and/or deal with any type of emergency situation. Materials in this collection can include manuals, handbooks, videos, reports or software.

Because the materials purchased for the Emergency Management collection are specifically selected for the use of all New Jersey citizens, all items in the collection may circulate. New Jersey residents may borrow items by either coming into the New Jersey State Library in person, or they may request an item through their local public library and receive the item through an Interlibrary Loan. For more information about borrowing please see "Getting a Library Card".

New materials are added to the collection annually, and a printed catalog of items is available. For information on requesting a catalog, to make suggestions for the collection, or for any other questions, please contact Martha Sullivan at the New Jersey State Library. Phone number 609-278-6240 x165.

II. Search our catalog

Access our catalog here.

To find items at the New Jersey State Library that are part of the Emergency Management Collection, use the online catalog and select a “General Keyword” search from the drop-down box. Use the phrase “EM fund” or “State Police EM fund” to see all items contained within the collection. The quotes are not necessary.

Searching for a specific topic (ex. Tornadoes, Bioterrorism, etc.) is an alternate way to search for items in general, however the results may not all be part of the EM Collection. However, many of the items at the New Jersey State Library may be borrowed by the public, provided that they are part of a collection that circulates. To perform general searches use a “Title Keyword”, “Subject Keyword” or “General Keyword” search.

Some suggested keywords:

  • Biological warfare
  • Bioterrorism
  • Chemical warfare
  • Data recovery
  • Disaster Medicine
